The IMF officials will be in Colombo from August 24 to 31 to continue discussions on economic and financial reforms and policies with the Sri Lankan government.

The goal is to move closer to short-term agreement at the staff level on a potential IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement. Given that Sri Lanka’s public debt is seen to be unsustainable, the IMF Executive Board would need sufficient guarantees from Sri Lanka’s creditors that the debt will once again be sustainable before approving the EFF program.

During the tour, IMF staff members would also keep in touch with other stakeholders.

Masahiro Nozaki and Peter Breuer will serve as the team’s leaders.
