St. Peter’s College were thrown out of the President’s Trophy Inter-Schools Knock-Out Rugby Tournament after they were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player during the ‘A’ Division League Tournament, which concluded recently.

As a result, The Peterites will not take part in this year’s President’s Trophy Knock-Out Tournament, which begins this week, and their place will be taken by Dharmaraja College.

St. Peter’s had a miserable league tournament as they managed only a solitary victory and figured in one drawn game and lost to S. Thomas’ College in their annual Inter-Schools encounter played last week.

According to reliable sources from the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association, St. Peter’s are likely to be demoted to the Segment ‘B’ category as well in next year’s Inter-Schools Tournament.

Meanwhile, Dharmaraja who replaced St. Peter’s, will take on the reigning league champions Isipathana College in the first quarter-final of the knock-out tournament on Saturday.

In addition, the giant killers Vidyartha College will be up against S. Thomas’ College, Wesley will meet Science College and the league runners-up St. Joseph’s College will face St. Anthony’s College.

All matches will be played off at the Royal College Sports Complex and at Havelock Park with the semi-finals scheduled for September 3 and 4 and the final on September 11.

Meanwhile, Royal College and Trinity College have pulled out from this year’s President’s Trophy Knock-Out Tournament. – DailyNews
